Privacy notice
Your information.
Handled with care.
Open Potential is responsible for the personal information used to provide this website and learning platform. This notice explains what we use, why we use it and the choices available to you.
Last updated: 31 August 2026
Information we collect
This may include adult account and contact details; learner names or nicknames, ages and PINs; selected subjects and learning preferences; lesson answers, reflections, uploaded work and progress; bookings and live-class records; support, feedback and safeguarding communications; subscription and transaction references; and technical information needed to secure and operate the service.
Why we use it
We use information to create and secure accounts, provide requested learning services, personalise content within parent-controlled settings, record progress, communicate about the service, arrange teaching, respond to concerns, prevent misuse and improve reliability and accessibility.
Our lawful reasons
Depending on the activity, we process information because it is needed to provide the service you requested, because we have a legitimate interest in operating and improving a safe educational service, because you gave consent, or because the law requires or permits it. Where optional consent is used, it can be withdrawn.
Children’s information
Learner profiles sit within a parent-controlled family account. Please also read our Children’s Privacy Notice, which explains this in simpler language.
Assisted learning services
When a connected service helps prepare a lesson, explanation or destination activity, we send only the information needed for that request. Private free-text Learning Passport notes are excluded. Open Potential does not retain microphone recordings. Important learning decisions remain reviewable by a parent or authorised member of staff.
Who receives information
Information may be available to the parent controlling the family account, the learner it relates to, an authorised teacher or staff member who needs it, and carefully selected providers supporting hosting, email, assisted content, maps, video, security or payments. We may also disclose information where required by law or necessary to protect someone.
Storage, security and international services
We restrict access by role and use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards. Some connected providers may process information outside the UK. Where this happens, we use an applicable adequacy arrangement or contractual protection where required.
How long we keep information
We keep information only for as long as needed for the account, learning record, safety, support, financial, legal or operational purpose for which it was collected. Information is deleted or anonymised when it is no longer required.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or objection, and may withdraw consent. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. To contact Open Potential about privacy, use our contact page.
Updates
We may update this notice when the service or law changes. The current version and update date will remain available here.
